Recap: Module 1

Session One – What Is Innovation?

Learning Focus: Understanding innovation and the skills needed for the future.

In this session, you explored what innovation really means and why it matters. You looked at examples from history and today, seeing how innovation drives progress and shapes the world of work.

You discussed how the skills we need are changing — from creativity and collaboration to problem-solving and storytelling — and explored the Double Diamond model to understand how ideas develop from discovery through to delivery.

You also reflected on the importance of failure, reframing it as a key part of learning and progress. Innovation often comes from experimentation, so you learned that failing fast and adapting is essential to moving ideas forward.

Session Two – Where Do Good Ideas Come From?

Learning Focus: Finding inspiration and developing creative confidence.

Building on Session One, you looked at where ideas come from and how to develop them into something new. You explored inspiration from nature, the hive mind, and even frustration, learning that creativity can start anywhere.

Through structured questioning — including the 5 Whys — you uncovered the root causes behind everyday frustrations and turned them into How Might We… questions to open up creative possibilities.

You also practised a range of ideation tools like SCAMPER, Crazy Eights, and Dotmocracy, discovering that innovation works best when ideas are shared, built upon, and tested in a safe, collaborative environment.

By the end, you and your team had created and pitched new ideas, putting your creative thinking into action.
