Recap: Module 3

Session One – Knowing Your Context

Learning Focus: Understanding data, context, and risk to build a strong proposal.

In this session, you started to think strategically about how to develop your innovation into a well-rounded proposal. You explored the importance of understanding your context — the data, risks, and external factors that could influence your idea’s success.

You learned about crafting a vision, creating a clear and inspiring story of what you want to achieve and why it matters. Using storytelling and visuals, you began to express your ideas through a vision specification, combining images, words, and numbers to make your concept more tangible.

You explored the PESTLE framework (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, Environmental) to analyse the external factors that could create risks or opportunities for your innovation. You also discovered tools like FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) to help anticipate problems before they arise.

By the end of the session, you had begun to shape your idea into a strategic proposal, backed by research, data, and a clearer understanding of your audience and environment.

Session Two – Consolidating Your Proposal

Learning Focus: Bringing your research, ideas, and evidence together into a clear proposal.

In this session, you pulled everything together to build a structured and compelling proposal for your innovation project. You worked with the Vision Specification document — a tool to capture the key elements of your idea, from user needs and benefits to resources, risks, and communication plans.

You learned how to summarise complex information into short, meaningful statements, and practised refining your language so your message was clear and engaging. You also explored the idea that “less is more”, learning how to communicate concisely with stakeholders while still providing enough depth and data to build confidence.

You reflected on what makes innovation credible — not just great ideas, but the ability to execute them. Through agile thinking and teamwork, you saw how collaboration, alignment, and clarity are key to turning ideas into action.

By the end of the module, you had consolidated your research, refined your proposal, and strengthened your ability to communicate the story and strategy behind your innovation.
